Typing

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

Yes, you will need a computer or laptop for most of the work that is set forth in the STEM Curriculum guide....orrrrrr a keypad attached to an ipad could probably work.

Start your day with 10 minutes to get the brain working.

Record your daily score on your printed-out Guide (if the game you choose gives you a score)

If I'm being honest, judging by the 3rd grader and 5th grader I own and seeing their typing abilities....this is a daily MUST activity for all students that are old enough to sit in front of a computer.

How many times have we all said "if you just do it for ten minutes a day?" haha. Well, the time excuse has been completely blown out of the water. We're not going any where so get to typing. The guide calls for a measly 10 minutes a day. I think you can do more but please have the students do 10. Most students know some great online typing games that will help them keep score of their mistakes and their words per minute. If there is a favorite game/activity you like to use with your kids, please comment on this post.

A GREAT place to start from is TYPING.COM and most students already have an account. If you have an account already or create a new student account it will record your progress. Here is a game we also like to play

Just think of where these kids will be with a consistent typing lesson every day. Plus it's fun!!

BUILD THEIR CONFIDENCE!!

Learning to type will boost their confidence and give them mad computer skills. They'll not only be able to use a computer faster but their grammar and spelling will improve. Tablets are not the future for our students. Computers and keyboards are still used as the majority across all businesses and STEM professions.

HERE IS A LINK TO OTHER TYPING GAMES....Find the one that's best for you.

In the later weeks of the curriculum, I hope the kids will have enough confidence to start their own blog or writing journal. This will give them a fun outlet and a creative way to showcase all of their hard work.

Have fun....how funny is that dog photo?! ;0)
